Show Us Your Life {ALMA MATER}

Kelly's Korner has a great weekly blog called "Show Us Your Life." I've been wanting to start joining in on the fun, and this week's SUYL was Alma Maters. I thought this would be a great time to reminisce and get some of my old fashioned pics scanned into a digital format. We have come a long way in 5 years! ;) Seriously though, I really wish digital cameras were a big thing when I was in college...so many more memories would have been documented!!

I went to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas to major in Education. It is one of the best universities in TX for those who want to be a teacher, and that's what I had wanted to be since I can remember. I loved that Huntsville was a smaller town (coming from a very big Houston) yet it still wasn't too far from home or bigger, more happening places. We probably made a trip to the Woodlands for a little more excitement at least once a week!
My first year I roomed with my high school bestie, Mollye, in the dorm Jackson-Shaver. Great memories!!
I joined a small, local sorority called Sigma Lambda Epsilon, where I made many more great friends and memories!!
After my freshman year, I wanted to live in apartments instead of the dorms which meant I had to get a job. (boo!) I loved living in apartments, but I did not like moving to a new place every year (thank you grown-up life for being more consistent.)

I graduated in December 2006 and moved to Waco where I got a job teaching 2nd grade and married my hubby 2 years later! :)

Dearest Memories:
- Move-in Day & Mollye's memorable bathroom experience
- $5 pizza Mondays watching Smallville with Christie
- Shenanigans and the shadow box
- Living in the trailer with Steph
- Actually being consistent at working out
- Student Teaching
- A couple very strange different weddings
- Being dead LAST during graduation ceremonies (I got the loudest applause though) ;)
And plenty more that will pop into my head as soon as I hit "publish post"

I am SO glad I went to SHSU! Eat 'Em Up Kats!!

Diaper Shower

I threw a diaper shower for our principal at school last week. There were four of us that were pregnant at school...one just had her baby! Talk about fluctuating hormones!! Anyhow, since our principal already has two little ones, she wanted to do a diaper shower instead of an all out baby shower. Here's the little decorating I did...not as much as I typically would since I only had 30 minutes to decorate and get set up (a "thank you" shout out to my wonderful helpers!)

Gift:

The gift was super fun and easy to do. I bought three different sized diapers and a thing of wipes. I wrapped them and stacked them in a tower, and then I just taped and hung random baby things all over it! I love the way it turned out!!

Happy {Heart} Day!

Today was a simple, yet wonderful Valentine's Day! In the past, we have gone somewhere like San Antonio or Fort Worth for the weekend to celebrate, but this year we both had to work, and as you already know, Valentine's Day fell on a Monday. So instead, we went out to eat at Chuy's and spent the evening watching our favorite T.V. shows. Brent surprised me with the flowers pictured below, and then brought out his gift for Madison. He said he wanted to give something to both his girls! Cue: "Awe, how sweet!" I know, I know, he's kinda fantastic, isn't he?! :)

{Did you notice I actually get to eat 2 bags of chocolate? "Yum," says the pregnant lady!}

Hope you guys all had a Happy {Heart} Day with your loved ones- spouses, family, and friends!

Much LOVE!

Snow!! Yes, it's a BIG deal here!

For most of you out there not living in TX, you get snow so much it might not be considered "fun," but this morning we woke up to a beautiful White Friday, and we were ecstatic! Of course everything shuts down as soon as the first flurry is spotted so Brent and I both got off work to be safe play!! Once we geared up in our ski stuff (make fun, but we still like to be warm) we headed out to his parent's house to play in the snow, Texas redneck style! No snowmobiles needed- we've got four wheelers!! Brent even took his snowboard out to be pulled by his dad on the four wheeler. So it is now official, you CAN snowboard in TX! We tried to make a snowman (I wanted to make a prego-snowwoman) but the snow wasn't sticky enough to roll up. Bummer, but needless to say we still had a blast! Check out Snow Day 2011 below! :)

Staying Warm

So the weather here is crazy! I know to all my northerners out there this is nothing, but we are freezing down here in TX!! Today the high was 25 degrees, tomorrow the low is 9 degrees, and we have rolling blackouts to meet the demands of everyone's heaters. The good thing that has come out of all this...I finally got Brent to make me a fire!! :)

Now if I could only get a fireplace in my classroom!!
:)
